Have you ever felt tired when you wake up?

Ask yourself this. Why do I feel tired even after a night's rest?

Was it my bed or my pillow? Or was it the food that I ate last night?

Rest assured. It is none of the above.

Having good night's rest is tantamount to having a good meal or a dose of vitamin C. Rest energises your body and melatonin is secreted during sleep especially at night. Without it, we will appear to be listless and age faster.

So, how do we get around this age-old problem of not being able to sleep?

In chapter 2 verse 47 of the Gita, it states

"You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action. Never consider yourself the cause of the results of your activities, and never be attached to not doing your duty."

We do not need to feel attachment to the outcome of our actions.

By the same token, if the ending is not desirable, we do not have to feel guilty either.

As long as we have performed our duty in whatever way we could, we need not expect rewards nor should we blame ourselves.

The more we dwell on these sage words of 2:47, it become easier to feel detached from the pull and struggle of guilt, disappointment and bitterness.

This really helped me to wade through the path self-recrimination. I stopped blaming myself and you know what? I felt as light as a feather. It was such an immense relief and sleep was better. Not only that, I could focus on the here and now. If you attend our Bhagavad Gita classes at Yishun, Holytree Temple, these verses are explained in a user-friendly way. The classes are conducted in English and the HIndu classes for children have not only attracted children but adults as well. We have philosophical and energising sessions for you to tackle your challenges.
