Chapter 6 Verse 34

The mind is restless, turbulent, strong and stubborn. Controlling it is like controlling the wind.

Whether you admit it or not, the time spent on yourself determines the quality of work you expend. And most of us place ourselves as the last priority.

Ask yourselves this. When did you read a book in its entirety? Newspapers and blogs don’t count. 😊

We spend so much of time dispensing our energy in the prime of life on our work, our colleagues, bosses, our beautiful children, our spouses and whoever else, that we hardly have time left for ourselves.

Why do we place ourselves at the end of the spectrum? Do we not deserve better?

The only way we can be of use to our loved ones is if we keep ourselves strong first.

Though it sounds selfish, placing our strengths and directing our energies upon enhancing the pureness of our thoughts should be at the back of our minds constantly.

Alas, we do not do this. Instead we spend hours needlessly worrying about whether we have done enough and beat ourselves up about not doing the right thing for our loved ones.

Guilt preoccupies our minds and we are consumed with the idea of perfectionism. Our constant fixation is one acquiring some sort of super – human power and transforming everything in our lives to being a shining, stellar performance. At our weekly Bhagavad Gita Classes, we often discuss the frailty of the mind. And we are constantly aware of the drawbacks we may face.

To avoid falling into this pit, we need to acknowledge that our minds are difficult to control.

Then, admit that we are imperfect. At our Sunday classes for children we teach the language of love and the value of dharma every week. The main focus is on building our core strength.

And we cut ourselves some slack while we destress every week.

WE can only do so much. Giving ourselves a break by sitting back and reading a book or doing a meditation practice at least once a week. You will be doing yourself the greatest favour and your goals will soon appear within your reach. Take a deep breath and let go….just a little.
